Pickleball.com is a platform dedicated to the fast-growing sport of pickleball. The site is a hub for everybody interested in pickleball. It offers different resources from tournament registrations to player rankings and much more.

The sport continues to gain popularity, so Pickleball.com plays as a connector in the community. It provides up-to-date information and supports the growth of pickleball.

The Challenge

Pickleball.com has faced the challenge of maintaining the technical SEO health of its website. They have over 26,000 pages and a custom-built CRM on React Next.js, so the site requires solid technical SEO management.

Managing a large website usually comes with challenges, particularly in maintaining technical SEO. The development team of over 40 professionals at Pickleball.com often faced issues like incorrect redirects, missing page titles, and inaccurate metadata.

Primarily I am focused on the technical aspects of the site and the usability. So we need a solid tool to perform technical audits.

These problems are minor on their own but could replicate across thousands of pages, harming the site’s SEO and user experience.

The Solution

Nick Nelson, head of product at Pickleball.com had his first experience using Sitechecker during his freelance consulting. When he joined Pickleball.com, he applied Sitechecker to his new project. The primary tool used was the Site Audit.

Nick regularly ran audits to uncover issues like orphaned URLs, duplicate content, and incorrect redirects. The findings were compiled into reports, which were then converted into tasks for the development team.

This approach allowed for the quick resolution of issues, preventing them from scaling and affecting the site’s general performance.

Our team uses Semrush more for the keyword research aspect. But I only focus on the site audit and I feel like that is it much stronger in Sitechecker, the technical aspects of Sitechecker are better for me.

For example, the Site Audit helped identify that certain high-profile pages were mistakenly tagged as “no index,” preventing them from being ranked by Google. By addressing this, Pickleball.com could ensure that important content, such as player profiles, was visible to search engines and users.

The Results

After implementing Sitechecker into their workflow, Nick and his team have seen significant improvements in how they now can manage the site’s technical SEO. The team really like tool’s user-friendly interface and detailed reporting.

Now they can prioritize and address issues, improving the overall site performance.

One notable improvement was in identifying and correcting orphaned URLs and duplicate content issues, which, if left unchecked, could have negatively impacted the site’s SEO. The ability to assign tasks directly from the Sitechecker reports streamlined the workflow, allowing for faster fixes and better resource allocation.

I can simply go through the report, find a number of issues, and then I create tasks from them and I say “Hey, please fix this”.
Then because the site's so big, if we identify two or three issues it tends to be 200 issues because it replicates throughout the site.
